Club Policies & Member Standards

Membership Code of Conduct

Stoughton Country Club is a premier country club that fosters a culture which values, appreciates, and respects all its members, their families, guests, and staff. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with these values.

  • Members are responsible for ensuring that their own behavior, as well as that of their family members and guests, complies with this Code of Conduct and all other applicable SCC policies, rules, regulations, dress codes, parking restrictions, and related instructions.
  • Members shall conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner during all sporting activities, observing all applicable rules and standards of etiquette and fair play.
  • SCC is committed to perpetuating its long history of valuing diversity. Members shall treat others with courtesy, dignity, and respect regardless of race, color, national origin, creed, age, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, or any other condition protected by law.
  • Members shall not harass, threaten, verbally or physically abuse, or retaliate against any member, family member, guest, or staff member.
  • Members shall treat SCC employees respectfully and shall not reprimand, direct, or abuse them in any way. Any complaints or suggestions regarding employees should be submitted in writing to the appropriate member of Management or the Board of Directors.
  • Members shall not engage in any behavior that endangers the welfare, safety, harmony, or good reputation of the Club, its members, employees, or guests. The following conduct is strictly prohibited, but not limited to:
    • Deliberate or careless damage to or destruction of SCC property or the property of any member or employee.
    • Removing or borrowing SCC property or assets without prior authorization.
    • Unauthorized use of SCC equipment, time, materials, or facilities.
    • Provoking or participating in physical altercations on club property.
    • Carrying firearms or any other dangerous weapons on the property, unless required by law.
    • Committing a crime or engaging in criminal conduct.
    • Creating or participating in any disruption on club property.
    • Using abusive or threatening language toward a member, guest, or employee.
    • Violating any safety, health, security, or SCC policy, rule, or procedure.
    • Committing or participating in any form of unlawful harassment.
    • Possession or use of controlled substances, as defined by Wisconsin and federal laws, on Club property.
  • Members shall cooperate courteously and respectfully with fellow members and SCC staff.

Dress Code

All members and guests must adhere to the following dress code:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday Night Dining Room Expectations
Hats, caps, and hoodies are prohibited. Denim is permitted but must be free of holes, tears, or fraying.

Recommended Attire

Men and Boys:
Dress shirts, collared golf shirts, sport shirts with sleeves, turtlenecks, mock turtlenecks, sweaters, sweater vests, golf jackets, golf shorts, Bermuda shorts, walking shorts (mid-thigh length), traditional slacks, and khakis. Hats and caps should be worn with the bill facing forward.

Women and Girls:
Sleeved or sleeveless blouses, shirts or golf shirts (with or without collars), turtlenecks, mock turtlenecks, sweaters, sweater vests, jackets, golf jackets and pullovers, golf shorts, Bermuda shorts, walking shorts (mid-thigh length), golf skirts, skorts, capri pants, golf slacks, and golf dresses. Hats and caps should be worn with the bill facing forward.

Unacceptable Attire:

  • T-shirts (plain, logoed, or athletic)
  • Gym shorts or workout attire
  • Cargo shorts or pants
  • Collarless cotton T-shirts
  • Tank tops, halter tops, or midriff tops
  • Cut-offs
  • Overalls, carpenter pants, or sweatpants
  • Clothing with excessively large or inappropriate logos
  • Micro-mini skirts (except for appropriate tennis skirts used as a crossover for golf; our standard is the typical length of golf shorts or skorts)

These items are not allowed on the golf course, practice fairway, or putting green. You may be asked to change into appropriate attire or purchase suitable clothing from the golf shop.

Medical Exemption Policy

  • Members in good standing who are experiencing health-related issues that prevent them from playing golf may apply for a Leave of Absence (LOA) on certified medical grounds. The LOA may be granted for a period of six to twelve months, with a maximum of two separate periods within any five-year span.
  • Members must provide supporting medical documentation and will be reclassified as non-playing members during the LOA.
  • During this time, members are responsible for paying social membership dues and any other applicable charges.
  • Once the member has applied for the Medical Exemption, the Board of Directors (BOD) and General Manager will review and decide on the LOA.
  • Appeals are not permitted once a decision has been made by the BOD and General Manager.

Enforcement and Oversight

Management and the Board of Directors shall be responsible for reviewing and investigating any violations or compliance concerns regarding this Code of Conduct, or any other SCC bylaws, rules, regulations, procedures, or instructions.
